OK, so I haven't (exactly) forgotten about this.
However, I probably won't update this until I'm done moving.
Also, Frankie's hd crashed, so... being online is sort of painful.
But, yeah, if you're actually waiting for an update, it's getting here. Eventually.

[ host - beginnings ]
AKA SL is nitpicky even before the prologue starts, and giggle-RAGES throughout the prologue itself.
OK, in case my lolwhutintroduction didn't make this clear, I am reading Stephenie Meyer's "adult" scifi novel, The Host. Oh, and I friggin' hate it.

Aaaaaand, onto the nitpicky!
Now, I'm not advocating the killing of trees or anything. I, for one, happen to like trees---heck, nature even---in general. But still... would it have killed the publishers to just, I don't know, space shit out a little?
I'm talking about the really weird shit that went down on my copy. I'm just... here are pictures (taken with my cell ;_;) to illustrate my point.

so, yeah. The first four pages. D:

[ hai, this is my introduction. or something. idk ]
I'm not even sure how the hell I'm supposed to start this. Ugh.
Should I introduce myself? Should I introduce the book itself? Should I do both by putting it into the context of the romance and scifi genres? Include the Twilight hysteria and backlash?
I--I've never done anything like this before. I'm not used to reviewing stuff, breaking it down, analyzing it down to the wick. Not to this degree at least. It's sort of hard to admit, but I'm used to enjoying stuff superficially. And if there's something, er, problematic, my mind just goes "oh, I'm bored," and that's it. I put it away---out of sight out of mind---and no more thought goes into it. Problem solved.
Only, it's not. The problem's ignored, and ignoring it becomes an even bigger problem in and of itself.
---except with this book. The first time I read this book (why the fuck am I reading this again?!)---two years ago, apparently---I was at times filled with both rage and boredom. And, really, I was bored because it was fucking boring. Unbelievably, unbearably boring. I raged because there was shit in here that infuriated me (which has only happened once before, with Vampire Kisses, which I will review once hell has frozen over or have given in fully to masochism), and we'll get to that once we get to it. But mostly I was bored. Because this is a very, very, very boring book---are we beginning to sense a pattern here? (Hint: it has to do with boredom)
Anyways, have a score to settle with this book (OK, kidding! mostly), and I want to practice looking critically at what I read (instead of just flipping through it real quick like normal). Also, this is because while there are shitloads of things having to do with the Twilight series, there's fucking nothing about The Host. (and if you don't believe that, Google compare it. DO IT)
I thought it needed a little love, only not really because this piece of shi---er, yeah.
Anyways, I have a hard copy of the book (1st edition!) that was handed down to me from mah BFF S. who never ever read after the 30th or so page. This was a sign. One that I did not heed. So, yeah.
Hard copy.
Time on my hands.
A mission.
Join me on this strange and marvelous (haha no) journey.
Because, yeah, against her better judgment, SL will read The Host. Again.
Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.
[ also, lol this intro introduced nothing ]
